In
1946 two brothers, Walter and Albert Wisbey, started two businesses as sub-contract
surgical instrument makers. These 2 businesses then amalgamated to become NIC
Instruments in 1959.
During the fifties, the company was approached to design and manufacture a range
of visual inspection equipment, based on modified medical devices.
In 1972, the company moved to its current site of 10,000 square feet. At this
time, an electroplating facility was set up to support the increasing manufacture
of visual and search equipment. By keeping all manufacturing in house, the company
was able to set the highest standards for its products.
The company continued to expand, introducing its first computer controlled machine
in 1976. During this time, there was a growing need for anti terrorist equipment,
and NIC entered this field with the Hook and Line range of equipment.
The 1980s saw the introduction of quality control systems. As a medical device
manufacturer, demonstrable good working practises are essential. All NICs
products are manufactured in a batch traceable system. NIC is approved to ISO
9001 for the design and manufacture of visual search equipment, alongside many
other medical device approvals.
NIC has become a world class design and manufacturing company. New products are
constantly being designed, and with close control over manufacture, prices are
extremely competitive.
We plan to continue to expand our search and anti terrorist equipment, and customers
can expect to find our web site being a strong focus for the wealth of products
we now manufacture.
